The pool season is just around the corner and to give you some inspiration for your backyard, we've handpicked three beautiful pools that we’ve done with Crystal Pools.
Crystal Pools pride themselves on being Australia’s most experienced swimming pool builder with over 60 years in the business. We’ve been working with Crystal Pools for almost 15 years supplying natural stone and other material for the coping and other areas in and around the pool.
Throughout the years we’ve worked on some stunning projects ranging from smaller pools to large sophisticated designs. Here are our top 3 picks with our Trend Mosaic.
Suburb: North Narrabeen
Size: 7 x 3.5m
Lining: Crystal Resort White Pebble
Tiles: Waterline: Trend Aquatic - 160 White
Coping: Light Grey Travertine
The beautifully landscaped Narrabeen pool is an excellent example of how a pool can elevate your outdoor area.
While it might be tempting to try to recreate a mini water park in your backyard, the geometric and classic rectangular designs often work best with the surrounding beautifully landscaped garden and provide the final touch to your tropical paradise.
Travertine is one of the most popular choices for pool surrounds, also because it doesn’t retain heat and is, therefore, suitable for the hot Australian climate.
The soft grey colours in the stone together with the simple shape of light pebble and the white mosaic at the waterline create an architectural effect and modern sophisticated look.
The final project looks beautiful, but the process wasn’t so easy. Do many projects come with challenges during excavation?
“The Crystal Pools team worked hard to ensure this pool would stand the test of time, and the outcome is nothing short of perfection.
Many sites that we build on come with challenges, whether it be sewer influences, tight access, rock, etc. Having been in the pool business for over 60 years, we’ve seen it all!”
Suburb: Balmain East
Size: 2.8 x 2.7m
Lining: Fully Tiled
Tiles: Trend Balmoral Glass Tiles
The choice of the pool shape will be governed, to some extent, by the space available in your outdoor area. Plunge pools are popular for those who have limited space available and want to branch out from the classic rectangular pools that are most commonly installed.
This beautifully landscaped plunge pool together with the dominant greenery that surrounds it creates a perfect relaxing corner in the garden.
While opting for a smaller plunge pool can reduce the cost of installation and reduce the maintenance demands, it can still be a strong focal point and statement piece in your backyard.
In this pool in Balmain, the dominant full tiling added more character to this relaxing corner and the pool took out the award for Traditional or Geometric Pools under $50,000 in the 2020 MBA Awards.
What are some of the main advantages of plunge pools and what are the most common reasons clients select them?
“Plunge pools are ideal for those who have limited space but would still like a swimming pool. Often homeowners think that they aren’t able to install a swimming pool as they don’t have space, but a custom designed, concrete plunge pool can be installed into the tightest corners of your back or front yard.
Plunge pools offer most of the same features of large swimming pools, with a few additional economical and environmental benefits. Heating and filtration are highly efficient in smaller pools and with fewer chemicals and cleaning time required to keep your pool sparkling, it’s no wonder plunge pools are such a popular choice for Sydney homeowners.
One of the many benefits of a concrete swimming pool is it can be built in any shape or size. Whether it’s a compact plunge pool in a tight backyard or a custom shaped family pool on an odd-shaped block, the highly experienced Crystal Pools team is ready to chat through all of your swimming pool options.”
Suburb: North Turramurra
Size: 9 x 4m
Lining: Crystal Resort White Pebble with Blue Glass Fleck
Tiles: Waterline: Trend Wavy
When designing a pool to please the whole family, the classic rectangular shape is often the most practical and suitable option. This way, the pool is spacious and flexible enough to be enjoyed by multiple people at the same time.
This Turramurra family pool is also a beautiful example of how effective it can be to combine multiple materials and colours together. The light beige Travertine combined with the wavy waterline and step edge tile creates a timeless and fresh combination.
The tiles also pick up the blue tones from the sky and the pool, creating a fresh summer oasis for the whole family. The colours combined with the greenery of the surrounds bring the whole garden together.
When is it more suitable to only use waterline tiling rather than tiling the whole pool, as in the case with North Turramurra pool?
“A fully tiled pool has long been regarded as the premium finish for swimming pools. The exceptional look and extensive colour options of a fully tiled pool is the ultimate addition to any backyard. Tiles are extremely durable, easy to maintain, and gentle on your feet.
The use of waterlines tiles combined with a pebblecrete interior is a less costly alternative. Pebblecrete can vary in colour, but does not offer as much range as tiles. The addition of waterline tiles allows you to match or contrast the colours in your pool lining and surroundings, to create your own custom look.
Waterline tiles create a crisp line between the coping and pool interior, to really define your swimming pool. Due to the surface of a glass tile being smooth, they are easy to clean and don’t build up dirt or scum along the waterline.”
Are the rectangular larger-sized pools usually the first choice for families?
“Rectangular pools have been around for decades and are still the most popular choice for the majority of home owners. The timeless design is suitable for young swimmers, teenagers, and adults and is, therefore, a practical choice for families.
Rectangular pools are easy to fence and the coping is neat and clean. Crisp, sharp edges create a sense of formality while complimenting the angles of the home.”
